Oyakodon

Mother and child dish consisting of chicken and egg seasoned with dashi and served over rice.

  • 1/2 onion, sliced
  • 10 oz chicken, sliced
  • 1 Tbspn sake
  • 3 eggs
  • 1/2 cup dashi
  • 2 Tbsp soy sauce
  • 2 tsp sugar
  • 3/4 cup sushi rice

  1. Prepare rice in rice cooker
  2. Sprinkle sake on chicken; let set 5 minutes
  3. Break eggs in bowl; break yolks but do not scramble
  4. Dissolve sugar in dashi, soy sauce, mirin.
  5. Add onions to pan and sauce; bring to boil; add chicken. Simmer 5 minutes.
  6. Pour eggs over mixture
  7. Serve over rice.
